Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC), as a Cultural Partner of Art Basel Hong Kong 2026, proudly presents the parallel exhibition Le nid, La coquille at the L1 Gallery of JCCAC during Hong Kong Arts Month in March. The exhibition invites the public to step into a metaphorical world of “nests” and “shells” to explore how artists respond to the subtle interplay between the inner self and living space through their creations.
Le nid, La coquille injects fresh perspectives into JCCAC’s signature format previously tried and tested in the A Preface to Magnificence exhibition series. The theme in 2026 revolves around “space” and “inner emotion”, contemplating how artists construct a spiritual dwelling between artistic creation and life experience through visual language. The curatorial concept also resonates with the Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 theme of Transcend‧Condense, highlighting the complementary relationship between time and space.
This parallel exhibition of JCCAC’s ABHK 2026 exhibition features works by 11 JCCAC resident artists — CHAN King Long, Ken, CHENG Ting Ting, HUI Tin Wan, Ashton, HUI Wan Yu, Cami, LAM Yau Sum, LAU Ching Yee, Cathleen, LAW Ka Nam, Bosco, LI Ning, NGAI Wing Lam, Ant, TSE Chun Sing, and YIU Tung Wing, Wenda. Their works cover art mediums ranging from painting, ink, illustration, printmaking, installation, mixed media to new media. Distinct in style — some introspective, others expressive — the pieces come together to form both “nests” of creative refuge and “shells” that encapsulate memory, revealing the diversity and vitality of JCCAC as a thriving arts community.
Concurrently in the Central Courtyard, Archives in the Nests and Shells features JCCAC artists’ personal collections and works, incorporating documentary elements to highlight their perspectives and aesthetic interests beyond their artistic practices. By extension of the exhibition’s thematic narrative, it encourages visitors to explore their own sources of inspiration. Showcasing predominantly small-scale works, the pieces are collector-friendly and available for purchase.
Participating artists include: CHAN Ka Yee, Kathy, CHENG Wing Man, Van, CHEUNG Chun Lam, Eric, CHOY Hoi Ying, Emily, Ho Lok Chung, Dave, HUEN Kei Kwan, Oona, LAI Siu Wai, Arrow, LAI Sze Wing, LAM Chung Yin, Jason, LAM Hau Yi, LAU Siu Tsang, Benny, LI Pak Huen, Esther, LI Siu Chung, Joe, LIU HuiTing, Vivian, QIAN Yinxiao, Silver, SO Ka Man, Carmen, Andy Dada, Simon Yung, YAU Ngai Lam.
The Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) is a multi-disciplinary artist village and arts centre housed in a converted nine-storey factory estate on Pak Tin Street in Shek Kip Mei, Kowloon. Opened in 2008 as a self-financed registered charity and subsidiary of Hong Kong Baptist University, it was Hong Kong’s first major adaptive reuse of a decommissioned factory into a creative hub and is supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, which funded the conversion and naming rights.
