Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo

Situated within the First Section of Chapultepec Park, one of the city’s most significant cultural landmarks, Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo was founded in 1981 by celebrated Oaxacan-born artist Rufino Tamayo and his wife Olga Flores Rivas.

Housed in a striking modernist structure designed by renowned Mexican architects Teodoro González de León and Abraham Zabludovsky, the building draws inspiration from pre-Hispanic architecture, seamlessly integrating with its Chapultepec setting. As Mexico’s first major museum built with private funds, Museo Tamayo has been administered by the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA) since 1986. The holdings have expanded significantly through acquisitions by the Fundación Olga y Rufino Tamayo (FORT) and donations from artists and institutions.
