Art Basel‘s flagship fair, which is set to return to Messe Basel from 19 to 22 June 2025, with a VIP preview on the two days prior, will host 291 galleries from 42 countries, including 18 first-time exhibitors, and a new sector dedicated to gallery presentations of ‘new, pioneering work’.
The Premiere sector, which limits gallery presentations to three artists, is ‘an opportunity to discover new and innovative voices’, according to the fair’s communications.
Ten galleries will partake, including New York‘s Broadway with an installation by Abbey Williams. Silverlens, with locations in Manila and New York, will showcase work by mid-career Asia-Pacific artists Taloi Havini and Patricia Perez Eustaquio. Chapter NY plans to bring paintings by Antonia Kuo and ceramics by Erin Jane Nelson.
Edel Assanti in London—a first-time exhibitor, alongside Kosaku Kanechika in Tokyo, who will present a new embroidery by Japanese artist Junko Oki—are dedicating their booth to Lonnie Holley. Magician Space in Beijing will present a room-size installation by Liu Ding, reflecting on ‘survival amidst historical and contemporary traumas’.
Highlights in the main sector, featuring 239 galleries, include London’s Emalin, who will present new works by Nikita Gale, among others. François Ghebaly (Los Angeles/New York) will spotlight rising artists like Christine Sun Kim, Rindon Johnson, and Neïl Beloufa.
In Statements, dedicated to emerging artists, Munich’s Nir Altman will bring an LED video installation by Ndayé Kouagou. ROH Projects from Jakarta will feature an installation by Bagus Pandega, reconstructing East Java homes lost to the Sidoarjo mudflow disaster.
‘Art Basel 2025 promises to be a defining moment, showcasing a diverse range of extraordinary artworks, sparking international dialogue, and reinforcing its position as one of the most influential events on the global art calendar,’ said Maike Cruse, Director of Art Basel in Basel. —[O]
