Today it was announced that Patrick Lee, Hyundai Gallery’s current director, will be assuming the role of director of Frieze Seoul, which will premiere in September 2022.

With KIAF Seoul having opened this week, we take a look at some of the great work coming out of Korea. Across Frieze London and Masters, the presence of Korean contemporary, modern, and avant-garde masters showing with both Korean and international galleries has been notable.

Do Ho Suh‘s extraordinary pink translucent fabric structure took centre stage at Lehmann Maupin‘s booth, while Belgium-based Axel Vervoordt were showcasing standout works by leading Dansaekhwa artists Park Seo-Bo, Chung Chang-Sup, and Yun Hyong-Keun.

Among the Korea-based galleries, PKM Gallery was showcasing a beautifully curated booth of Yun Hyong-Keun‘s series of ‘Umber Blue’ works, Gallery Hyundai was showing two of the late Kim Tschang-Yeul‘s exquisite water droplet paintings, and Kukje Gallery, a Ha Chong-Hyun ‘Conjunction’ work.
