Jan Nigro Biography

Jan Nigro’s paintings consider social, feminist and cultural issues, revealing a vigour and intimacy in her treatment of the human figure.

Nigro attended Auckland University School of Fine Arts (Elam) and exhibited in Melbourne in 1948, returning to New Zealand in 1963.

She was awarded an MBE in 1993, and has work in the collection of Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington, New Zealand.
