VKHUTEMAS
The VKhUTEMAS Workshop had a brief but significant existence. Created in 1920 by Vladimir Tatlin as the ‘Higher Art and Technical Studios’ and dissolved in 1930, it had a tremendous impact on the Russian avant-garde and its legacy remains influential even in these days. Contemporaneous to the Bauhaus (1919-1933), it has never achieved the same status or degree of prominence but its legacy endures within art historical circles. Artists of the VKhUTEMAS Workshops include leading artists Alexander Rodchenko, Gustav Klutsis and Varvara Stepanova.
