Billy Tang, Executive Director of Hong Kong’s Para Site, Steps Down
By Elaine YJ Zheng – 5 June 2025, Hong Kong

Billy Tang, executive director and curator of Hong Kong non-profit Para Site, has stepped down after three years at the organisation’s helm.

In a parting email, Tang said the decision was not easy, but he believes in ‘the importance of growth and embracing new directions’.

In his time at the gallery, he mounted exhibitions for emerging and mid-career artists and oversaw the former artist-led space’s expansion into an annex ten storeys below its exhibition space on the 22nd floor of an industrial building in Hong Kong’s Quarry Bay district.

Tang succeeded long-time director Cosmin Costinas in 2022. Prior to Para Site he worked as a curator at Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai and Beijing gallery Magician Space.

His final exhibition with Para Site will open in September, featuring the work of Bangkok artist Pratchaya Phinthong

Deputy director Junni Chen will step in for Tang until the board finds his replacement.

Alan Lo, chair of the Para Site board, thanked Tang for a tenure marked by bold curatorial choices and his commitment to artists.

‘His exhibitions challenged conventions and ignited vital conversations, leaving a lasting imprint on Para Site and Hong Kong’s cultural landscape,’ he said. —[O]
