Marian Goodman Gallery, which also has spaces in Los Angeles and Paris, will launch a new flagship gallery in downtown Manhattan later this year.

The new gallery will occupy all 30,000 square-feet of the Grosvenor Building at 385 Broadway. The building was constructed in 1875 and served as an industrial warehouse for over a century. It has been vacant since 1999.

The refit was designed by studioMDA, who have worked on numerous art-related projects including Phillips’ headquarters on Park Avenue, the Faurschou Foundation in Brooklyn, and three of Kasmin Gallery’s New York spaces. Marian Goodman’s new flagship includes two floors of exhibition space, viewing rooms, a library, art storage, and administrative offices.

Opening on 26 October, the space’s inaugural exhibition will feature new commissions, installations, performances, and moving image works by dozens of Marian Goodman Gallery’s artists, including Pierre Huyghe, Tino Sehgal, Tacita Dean, and Maurizio Cattelan. The exhibition will continue through 21 December 2024.

‘Our inaugural exhibition marks the first time in nearly a decade that audiences will have the opportunity to view the full spectrum of our artists and explores the connections, affinities, and points of personal and creative intersection that have been fostered and have flourished among these artists,’ said Philipp Kaiser, the gallery’s president.

Kaiser, Jane Kirwan, Rose Lord, Leslie Nolen, and Junette Teng are partners at the gallery, where Marian Goodman is founder and CEO.

‘With its flexibility of space and prominence of location in Tribeca, the new gallery enables our artists to continue to innovate and inspire, as we extend our program and engage an ever-broader public,’ said Lord. —[O]
