Founded in 2010 by cultural entrepreneur Adrian Cheng, K11 Art Foundation (KAF) is a non-profit organisation based in Hong Kong, Named after his K11 art-mall projects, the foundation was created to support the development of Chinese contemporary art from Greater China and has since expanded to champion emerging artists from across Asia on an international stage.
Working from its curatorial base at chi art space in Central and through projects across K11 sites in Hong Kong and mainland China, KAF focuses on exhibitions, artist residencies and education programmes that bring together artists, curators and audiences. Partnerships with museums and biennials worldwide—from institutional collaborations in Europe and the United States to co-curated projects with regional organisations—have positioned the foundation as a key bridge between Asian practices and global discourse.
Since its inception, K11 Art Foundation has supported hundreds of exhibitions and public programmes involving more than 900 artists, curators and organisations, often foregrounding early- and mid-career voices. Its projects range from large-scale thematic shows and solo presentations to commissioned installations staged within K11’s hybrid retail–cultural environments, reflecting a commitment to ‘art for the masses’ and to testing how contemporary art circulates in everyday urban settings.
The foundation also runs residency and prize initiatives that provide time, resources and institutional networks for artists and curators from Greater China and the wider region. Education programmes, public talks and publications extend these projects into broader conversations about collecting, urban change and the future of Asian art ecologies, particularly during anchor moments such as Art Basel Hong Kong and the city’s March art season.
K11 Art Foundation does not operate as a single public museum but presents programmes primarily at chi art space (8/F, New World Tower 2, 18 Queen’s Road Central) and within K11 developments such as K11 MUSEA and K11 Art Mall in Tsim Sha Tsui. Exhibition opening hours and access vary by venue and project; visitors should consult the K11 Art Foundation and K11 MUSEA websites for current exhibition details, ticketing information and related events.
K11 Art Foundation is a Hong Kong–based non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering contemporary art, with a particular focus on emerging artists from Greater China and Asia. It develops exhibitions, residencies and educational programmes often staged within K11’s art-mall environments and in collaboration with international institutions.
The foundation was established in 2010 by Adrian Cheng, a Hong Kong cultural entrepreneur and collector. Cheng is also the founder of the K11 brand, which integrates art, retail and lifestyle, and he positions KAF as a platform to democratise contemporary art and nurture new talent.
KAF is headquartered in Central, Hong Kong, with a primary project space at chi art space in New World Tower 2. Its exhibitions often take place at K11 MUSEA and K11 Art Mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, as well as partner institutions in Asia and beyond, so locations vary by project.
Yes. KAF supports artist and curator residencies and operates biennial prizes that alternate between artists and curators, offering funding, mentorship and exhibition opportunities. These initiatives aim to build long-term careers for emerging practitioners from Asia by connecting them with global institutional networks.
K11 Art Foundation is the non-profit arm of the broader K11 cultural ecosystem, while K11 MUSEA and K11 Art Mall are commercial developments that integrate art into retail and public space. Many KAF projects are presented within these venues, using their high footfall to expand audiences for contemporary art.
