We are very pleased that Lawrence Weiner accepted our invitation to show a work in our Corner Space this summer.
Weiner defines his work as sculpture. The sculpture consists of language and the material it refers to. The existence of the work is its primary form: language. When the installation of the work, which was designed especially for our Corner Space ceases to exist, the frame of what the language represents to its viewer will remain; in other words, its concept remains within the context of the work's receiver. This is what endures over time, a continuum whose values remain with its viewer if he or she so chooses. As seen with the publication of his first artist book in 1968, Statements, Weiner is one of the pioneers of conceptual art. Galerie Thomas Schulte would like to thank Hubert Winter, Vienna, and Konrad Fischer, Düsseldorf/Berlin, for their cooperation in making this exhibition possible.
