Since its inception in 2007 in Daegu, one of the five metropolitan cities in South Korea, and its opening of a second branch in Seochon, Seoul in March 2013, the LEEAHN has operated the two gallery spaces.
As the home of Korean contemporary art represented by monochrome painting artists as Lee U fan, Park Seo Bo, Chung Sang Hwa, Lee Dong Youb, Chung Chang Sup, Yoon Hyung Geun, Lee Kang So and Kim Tschang Yeul, Daegu went through creative slumps in the 1990s and has regained the coveted title owing to covert and overt efforts exerted by the LEEAHN. Organizing creative and exceptional art exhibitions of high-profile international artists in Daegu since the 2000s, the LEEAHN has offered locals the opportunities to get access to a range of acclaimed overseas contemporary artworks, while having been committed to local artists’ gaining global traction via art fairs in its Seoul gallery and in other countries.
The LEEAHN has hosted the solo exhibitions of such Korean artists as Hyunwook Ryu (2008, 2013), Myungmi Lee (2009, 2015), Tchunmo Nam (2015), J. Park(2016), Hodeuk Kim (2011), Leenam Lee (2013), and Boomoon (2012) every year. More significantly, the LEEAHN has fostered the talent and career of many emerging Korean artists and presented their works at a variety of overseas exhibitions in Dubai, Russia, the United States, and Singapore and art fairs in Hong Kong (Art Basel HK 2014, 2015, 2016), Singapore (Art Stage Singapore 2012), Beijing (China International Gallery Exposition 2009) and Korea (KIAF 2008-2015).
At the same time, the LEEAHN has played a pivotal role in arranging the solo exhibitions of eminent artists such as Andy Warhol (2007), Alex Katz (2007), Bernar Venet (2007), Nam June Paik (2008), Yayoi Kusama (2008), A.R. Penck (2008), Damien Hirst (2009), Mr. (2010), Jennifer Steinkamp (2010, 2014), Paritica Piccinini (2010), Mingzhong Wu (2011), David Salle (2013), DZINE (2014), Eve Sussman (2014), Imi Knoebel (2015) and Frank Stella (2015) in collaboration with the artists themselves or the galleries representing them. Also, the LEEAHN has discovered artists with untapped creative potential, continuously supported their artistic creation and contributed to their gaining footholds in international market.
With an extensive range of exhibitions of the art world’s leading and emerging artists, the LEEAHN will continue to highlight contemporary art trends and bridge the gap between art and audience, while contributing to invigorating the art market and globalizing Korean art.
