Based in the culturally rich Brera district in the historical heart of Milan, Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea is an Italian contemporary gallery that represents Italian and international artists with well-established practices alongside many younger artists.
Read MoreIts founder and namesake Mimmo Scognamiglio is an Italian gallerist who cut his curatorial teeth working for 10 years with renowned Italian art dealer and curator Lucio Amelio. Originally founded as Scognamiglio e Teano in 1995 in Naples, in 2007 the gallery—re-christened Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea in 2000—moved to the contemporary fashion and design capital of Milan. Since then, the gallery has been active on the city’s cultural scene, holding shows in public and private settings, collaborating with avantgarde curators and publishers, and organising art seminars.
Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea Artists
Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea represents a combination of established and emerging artists working across a broad range of mediums.
The gallery’s roster includes internationally exhibiting artists, such as Chiharu Shiota—the Berlin-based Japanese multimedia artist known for her yarn installations; Serbian contemporary fine art photographer Ljubodrag Andric, whose crisp, enigmatic, and sometimes surreal images have attracted a global audience; London-based Tibetan artist, Gonkar Gyatso, and British artist Jason Martin, whose abstract monochromatic paintings and mixed-media works explore and expand on the physical properties of painting.
Additionally, the gallery represents established Italian artists, like the late Art Povera painter Domenico Bianchi and the painter and printmaker Mimmo Paladino, a leading figure in the Transavantgarde art movement.
The gallery also represents many emerging and mid-career Italian artists such as Naples-born multimedia artist Maddalena Ambrosio; pencil-obsessed Lucio Perone, with his witty PVC and resin sculptures, and his brother Peppe Perone, whose figurative sculptures in wood, metal, and fiberglass are coated with coarse, coloured sand.
