Through painting, I seek to maintain, deepen and articulate a relationship with impermanence. I see within impermanence the operation of a distinct, generative, and reliable logic that can be understood in terms of change, pattern/repetition, and continuity. For me the term is interchangeable with Chaos (as its conceived in the sciences and some branches of contemporary philosophy), and it cannot be shown that any form is more originary or encompassing. The universal nature of impermanence imbues it with a sense of telos that points to countless (as yet) unknown outcomes. Every work begets the next, and I am compelled by this sense of its ever-increasing potential realised through novelty, difference and an adaptive complexity. - Adrian Hobbs
