David Zwirner is pleased to participate in Art Basel 2021. Highlights at the booth will include works by Josef Albers, Diane Arbus, Lucas Arruda, William Eggleston, Liu Ye, Kerry James Marshall, Oscar Murillo, Alice Neel, and Wolfgang Tillmans, among others.
Among the featured works at the fair will be Untitled (c. 1963), an early large-format painting by Robert Ryman. The Ryman estate recently joined the gallery in May 2021. The painting will also be the subject of an online viewing room as part of the 'Exceptional Works' series, available on davidzwirner.com.
For this year's edition of Unlimited, David Zwirner will present significant works by four gallery artists: Sherrie Levine's After Russell Lee: 1–60 (2016), a group of sixty giclée print reproductions of Russell Lee's influential photographs depicting rural life in Pie Town, New Mexico; Nate Lowman's Untitled (2013–2015), a vast canvas map of the United States, the largest and most formally complex of the artist's map series, with each state stretched on its own shaped canvas that renders the work almost like a jigsaw puzzle; Josh Smith's Untitled (2020), a frieze-like polyptych comprising six panels depicting empty streetscapes inspired by Smith's neighbourhood as he experienced it during early morning and nighttime walks around a locked-down New York during the 2020 COVID-19 quarantine; and Dan Flavin's untitled (1974), a site-situational pink barrier work, which was produced for the artist's solo exhibition at the Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam, in 1975. That same year, a blue barrier from the series was shown at the Kunsthalle Basel in the seminal fünf Installationen in fluoreszierendem Licht von Dan Flavin. This work will also be the subject of a dedicated 'Exceptional Works' presentation on davidzwirner.com.
