On the occasion of Frieze Los Angeles 2019, Almine Rech will present a selection of paintings and works on paper from the Estate of Vivian Springford (American, 1913–2003). The display will highlight Springford’s earliest works produced in New York during the 1960s and 70s, a period which saw her transition from the language of gestural abstraction towards an innovative technique of large-scale staining with acrylics. Springford's approach, which infused the spirit of Abstract Expressionism with east-Asian philosophy and the principles of the Colour Field movement, continues to shape the understanding of painting from the post-war period.
We look forward to welcoming you at Booth A10.
